101 & 94-YEAR-OLD FLORIDA COUPLE WITH 94 DESCENDANTS CELEBRATE THEIR DIAMOND JUBILEE

All you need is love!

A 101 and 94-year-old Florida couple with 94 descendants recently celebrated their diamond jubilee, WFLA News Channel 8 reports.

Normally, when you hear something in the news relating to Florida — insert man, woman, couple, dog — it’s always ridiculous. The stories usually sound like: Man Drinking Water Runs Over a Hippo, Couple Starts a Riot at a Bowling Alley Over Missing Chipmunks, Florida Governor Makes Breathing Illegal for Black People. You know, stuff that are downright outlandish!

It’s why we do what we do here at Because of Them We Can. Not only do we want to counteract the onslaught of salacious and downright negative media, our mission is to spread all the good stuff going on in the world. And today, that good stuff surprisingly includes things that happened in Florida.

Take for example the story of William Moxey, a resident of Florida and father of four who gifted his children an ATM business. A serial entrepreneur, Moxey wanted to ensure his children had access to financial freedom from an early age.

continued;

“I just think that whatever career path that they choose, they can focus on that 100 percent and not have to worry about any finances. It’s very important to teach our kids financial freedom now. Teach them about credit, teach them how important it is. I tell my kids all the time if you can’t buy it twice, don’t buy it at all,” he said.

Last year, we also reported on Savion Harris, an 11th grader at Crestview High School. Savion was required to learn CPR as a part of his school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program. Shortly after, while working his shift at a local Thai restaurant, Savion had to put those skills to use. His heroic actions and quick thinking saved a child from dying.

“While I was talking to the responder on the other end of the phone, I got the baby from the dad and put him on the table. The baby was turning blue, and I decided to do CPR. I did two good compressions, and the baby started crying, so I knew he was getting oxygen to his lungs. The color started returning to his face, and at that point, the ambulance arrived. It was a very short, but like, intense couple of minutes. Just two or three minutes at the most, but it was extremely intense,” Savion told reporters.

Yep, good things can happen in Florida, too. Recently, we came across another feel-good story straight out of The Sunshine State. But this story isn’t about entrepreneurship or modern-day superheroes. This story is about a tale as old as time: love.

Meet 101-year-old Nate Crawford and 94-year-old Virginia Crawford, longtime sweethearts and residents of Pasco County. On September 16th, the Florida couple will celebrate 75 years of marriage, also known as a diamond jubilee! In honor of the monumental occasion, the Crawfords are set to celebrate with a private dinner surrounded by 60 of their closest family and friends.

Together, the Crawfords have a total of 94 descendants, including five children, 25 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. One of their grandchildren, Anitra Merricks, credits her grandparents with setting the tone in their own union that created the bedrock the entire family is built upon.

“We have a huge family and [we are] so grateful for the foundation our family was built upon…If you see one, you see the other. Always together and never apart. We all admire their love for each other,” Merricks told reporters.

The couple spoke about the key to their lasting marriage, saying it was “love, trusting one another and having faith in God.” They also encouraged other couples striving for a long-lasting marriage of their own. “Put God first and everything else will fall in place,” said Mr. & Mrs. Crawford.

What a love! Congratulations to the Crawfords on 75 magical years and nearly 100 descendants to carry on their rich legacy. The next time we need to be reminded about the good in Florida, we’ll think of them.
