Just when Aries Spears thought his week couldn’t get any worse following his viral criticism of Lizzo, the comedian is now trending once again. However, he’s not alone this time, as comedian, Tiffany Haddish’s name has also been included in court documents involving a 14-year-old girl and her 7-year-old brother. TIffany Haddish’s legal team denies all claims.
Aries Spears has spent the week defending his tasteless comments about Lizzo’s weight. After receiving criticism, the comedian took to social media to double down on his remarks claiming he knew the backlash was coming. Aries Spears isn’t new to controversial skits and backlash. In 2018, the comedian was called out for posting a ‘tasteless’ now-deleted skit targeting plus-sized women. Around the same time, he and Tiffany Haddish were both called out for the very same skit surrounding a new lawsuit.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears have been named in a lawsuit filed by two siblings identified as John Doe and Jane Doe. In the court docs, John and Jane Doe claims they are ‘traumatized for life’ after being groomed by both comedians at such a young age. Jane Doe claims she was only 14 years old when Tiffany Haddish taught her how to ‘imitate’ inappropriate acts for a skit. Jane Done also claims her brother was only 7 years old when he was violated by Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears while filming a video for ‘Funny or Die.’
Funny or Die is an entertainment brand and independent comedy studio founded in 2007 with comedian Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Chris Henchy’s “The Landlord” video. Every week original videos featuring comedians and celebrities are uploaded to Funny or Die’s Youtube account. To date, Funny or Die has over 2.3 billion video views. However, after researching the Youtube account, it appears the video mentioned in the documents, “Through a Pedophile’s Eyes,” has been removed from the page.
Tiffany Haddish’s legal team has responded to the ‘bogus’ accusations, calling it a shakedown. What makes matters more interesting is that both siblings claim their mother, Ms. Morris was once friends with Tiffany Haddish. Both individuals also revealed their mother attempted to reach a settlement with Haddish for $15,000 but was unsuccessful, prompting her to file legal action. Neither Aries Spears nor his legal team has commented on the allegations. However, Tiffany Haddish’s attorney promises both Jane Doe and her mother will face the consequences of pursuing such a frivolous claim.
UPDATE: Funny or Die released a statement following news of the lawsuit. The company claims the video was disgusting and immediately removed it after they were made aware of the content in 2018. The company also insists they were not involved in any aspects of the video’s creation.
